The pond is typically strictly off limits, except during Spirit Splash, an annual tradition (see below to learn more), and when soon-to-be-graduates celebrate their special moment. In 1973, President Nixon even stood in the drained pond to deliver the commencement address.

In partnership with OneBlood, 166su hosts one of 10 blood drives on campus to collect blood for the victims of the Pulse shootings. A total of 424 units of blood were collected at 166su in two weeks for the victims.
