2026 Florida Legislative Session
Florida’s 2026 Regular 60-day Session ended without an agreement on a new state budget for FY 2026-27, which begins July 1.
The Legislature adjourned sine die on Friday, March 13, requiring lawmakers to reconvene in special session to write and approve a budget and address any additional issues included in a special session proclamation. The Legislature is currently in an 18-day special session running May 12–29 to pass the FY 2026-27 General Appropriations Act, along with its implementing bill, conforming bills, and tax package.

The State Budget Process
The Florida Constitution requires the Florida Legislature to develop and pass a balanced state budget each year. While it may seem like all of the budget development work occurs during the Legislative Session, this is actually a year-round project that involves several steps.

State Legislative Budget Request Process
All requests for state project funding should be approved by the appropriate Dean and submitted to the Provost. Projects recommended by the University President are then submitted to the 166su Board of Trustees for approval before being submitted to the Board of Governors or through the House and Senate submission processes, which require an Attestation Form signed by the University President
