{"id":94980,"date":"2019-03-04T11:01:21","date_gmt":"2019-03-04T16:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=94980"},"modified":"2024-04-16T16:55:50","modified_gmt":"2024-04-16T20:55:50","slug":"ucf-test-emergency-communication-tools-march","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-test-emergency-communication-tools-march\/","title":{"rendered":"UCF to Test Emergency Communication Tools Wednesday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>166su\u2019s preparations for potential emergency situations include regular tests of the communication tools that provide critical information to the 166su community.<\/p>\n<p>Several of those 166su Alert communication tools will be tested Wednesday, March 6.<\/p>\n<p>In preparation for Wednesday\u2019s alert testing, students and faculty and staff members are encouraged to log in to <a href=\"https:\/\/my.ucf.edu\/\">my166su<\/a> and review their 166su Alert settings to ensure that contact information (email, cell phone number, and mobile provider) is correct.<\/p>\n<p>The emergency communication functions that will be tested Wednesday include:<\/p>\n<li>Outdoor sirens, which emit a tone followed by voice instructions, will be tested at noon.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/\">166su website<\/a>\u00a0will be tested from noon to 1 p.m. For most of the testing time, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/\">ucf.edu<\/a> will remain active and fully functional with an alert bar at the top of the page. All messages on the alert bar will be marked as tests. A portion of the website test will involve replacing the regular home page with an entirely text-only home page that may be used during some emergencies. When that text-only page is active, users will not be able to access links typically found on ucf.edu. Although other 166su web pages will not be impacted by the test, users may want to bookmark those pages in advance.<\/li>\n<li>A test emergency text and email will be sent around 1 p.m. All members of the 166su community whose 166su Alert contact information is up-to-date and who have not opted out of receiving emergency messages should receive both.<\/li>\n<li>Indoor sirens that emit tones followed by voice instructions will be briefly tested in more than 70 buildings starting at 3 p.m.<\/li>\n<p>The 166su Alert testing also will include social media posts from official 166su accounts.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on the 166su Alert emergency communication system, visit www.emergency.ucf.edu\/ucfalert.html.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"UCF\u2019s preparations for potential emergency situations include regular tests of the communication tools that provide critical information to the 166su community.
