{"id":79932,"date":"2017-12-04T13:04:26","date_gmt":"2017-12-04T18:04:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=79932"},"modified":"2022-09-15T09:57:47","modified_gmt":"2022-09-15T13:57:47","slug":"knights-heading-to-atlanta-for-peach-bowl-on-new-years-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/knights-heading-to-atlanta-for-peach-bowl-on-new-years-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Knights Heading to Atlanta for Peach Bowl on New Year\u2019s Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>2017 has been a peach of a perfect season for the 166su Knights, and now the team is gearing up to face the Auburn Tigers in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on Jan. 1.<\/p>\n<p>166su (12-0), the nation\u2019s only undefeated team, will take on Auburn (10-3) at 12:30 p.m. in Atlanta&#8217;s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s team achieved something no other team in program history has done: It was undefeated while winning its third American Athletic Conference Championship.<\/p>\n<p>To\u00a0play the Auburn Tigers, UCF already dispatched another team of Tigers on Saturday, edging the Memphis Tigers 62-55 in double overtime for the AAC title.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Anytime you can play in the Peach Bowl, or the type of bowl that it is, it&#8217;s awesome,&#8221; said interim head coach <em>Troy Walters<\/em>. &#8220;The guys earned it and to play a team like Auburn on a national stage the guys are excited, and we can&#8217;t wait to get back on the field and practice to finish this season 13-0.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Knights lead the nation in scoring and are ranked 10th in both the Coaches Poll and the Associated Press Top 25 Poll. The ranking matches the team&#8217;s highest showing in the AP Poll following the 2013 season and a win over Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl. 166su was ranked 12th in the final College Football Playoff Rankings announced Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>This will be the Knights\u2019 first trip to the Peach Bowl.
