{"id":146624,"date":"2025-05-05T10:00:50","date_gmt":"2025-05-05T14:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=146624"},"modified":"2025-06-02T17:44:42","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T21:44:42","slug":"ucf-public-safety-adds-3-new-officers-to-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-public-safety-adds-3-new-officers-to-team\/","title":{"rendered":"UCF Public Safety Adds 3 New Officers to Team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 166su Public Safety team welcomed three new officers at a swearing-in ceremony last week, which was attended by family, friends and colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis can be a tough job, but it\u2019s one that we love,\u201d says 166su Police Chief<strong>\u00a0Carl Metzger \u201903MS<\/strong>. \u201cI welcome our three newest officers, and I have no doubt that the future of this agency will be in great hands with talent like you coming on board.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new officers will be assigned to the patrol division upon completion of their field-training program, where they will spend several weeks paired with senior officers to receive hands-on experience out in the field before graduating to solo patrol.<\/p>\n<h2>Meet the Officers<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Originally from the Dominican Republic, Jonthy Candelario now calls Orlando home. He graduated from Orlando Christian Prep and served with the Orlando Police Department before joining 166su. He chose 166su because he recognized it was a great place to learn and grow in his career while impacting the community through events and outreach. A fun fact \u2014 Candelario is a basketball referee at the collegiate level.<\/li>\n<li>Sticking near his hometown roots of Deland, Florida, Patrick Daunt joins 166suPD after serving with the Oviedo Police Department. He says he understands how transformative and challenging college can be and looks forward to building community relationships. He wants students to feel comfortable and turn to him for help, support and guidance. In his free time, Daunt enjoys playing board games with his children.<\/li>\n<li>Andres Uzcategui comes to 166suPD after serving with the Orange County Sheriff\u2019s Office. He is originally from Venezuela and has always been passionate about helping others in his community, so he was drawn to law enforcement. Uzcategui\u00a0looks forward to working with students, faculty, staff and visitors at 166su, meeting a new student population every four years.
