Throughout the evening, students with a passion for the hospitality industry showcased their talents and professional skills. Senior hospitality management major Welsonne Renoir and senior hospitality management major Erica Flint were named Mr. and Miss Hospitality, respectively.

Thirteen contestants participated in talent, professional wear and interview segments before three guest judges: Mr. 166su 2016 Luke Hogue, Julie Ludwig, the 2015 Mr. & Miss Hospitality Fan Favorite winner, and Deborah Weissberg, an instructor at Rosen College. The 2015 Mr. and Miss Hospitality winners, Dale Reyes and Moriah Tate, served as pageant hosts.

Both Renoir and Flint received $250 scholarships courtesy of the 166su Student Government Association. Rosen Life also partnered with Knight-Thon to calculate the Fan Favorite votes. The audience had the opportunity to vote for their favorite contestant during the show by depositing dontations into their respective Knight-Thon buckets. Junior hospitality management major Rachel Altfield was named “Fan Favorite” and in total, the pageant raised $433 benefiting the Children’s Miracle Network.

Two Nights of 166su Scholarship Pageants /news/two-nights-ucf-scholarship-pageants/ Mon, 09 Feb 2015 20:18:56 +0000 /news/?p=64599 For two evenings of competition on February 6 and 7, the Pegasus Ballroom was lit up by colorful stage lights with the talents, personalities and passions competing at the 2015 Mr. 166su and Miss 166su Scholarship Pageants, respectively. Only one representative from each event was selected to carry the title for the next calendar year. Dominique Harris won the title of Mr. 166su and Brittany Vasile was crowned Miss 166su for 2015.

Harris, a junior from Orlando, is majoring in psychology. He has been very involved on campus, most recently as an O-Team member. After completing his education, he plans to become an industrial-organizational psychologist to help create training and stress-relief programs to help improve employee performance, conduct and morale.

Vasile, a senior from Port Orange, is majoring in advertising & public relations. She is a member of the 166su KnightMoves Dance Team and serves in a leadership capacity with the team. In the future she hopes to become a Radio City Rockette in New York City and eventually move on to work in their Advertising & Marketing department. During her year as Miss 166su, she will represent the university in the annual Miss Florida Pageant which takes place in St. Petersburg in June.

Each winner received a $1,800 scholarship from the Student Government Association and 166su Alumni Association.

Mr. and Miss 166su will represent the university in the Orlando and Central Florida areas. Both will have on- and off-campus speaking engagements to raise awareness for their selected passionate social issues. They will serve as campus celebrities making appearances at events and helping highlight all of the wonderful things that 166su is doing.

Introducing Mr. and Miss 166su 2014 /news/introducing-mr-miss-ucf-2014/ Fri, 14 Feb 2014 12:57:00 +0000 /news/?p=57324 On January 31, eight of 166su’s finest young men took the stage to compete for the title of Mr. 166su 2014. After five phases of competition and performances, Quinn Zagorc was awarded the title.

Zagorc is a senior from Tampa, Florida studying Advertising-Public Relations. Quinn performed a contemporary dance to “Edge of Glory,” and his platform that he will pursue during his year of reign is “Dance Up to Bullying.”

The following evening on February 1, 16 young women competed for the partner title, Miss 166su 2014. At the end of the evening, Catie Pires-Fernandes was crowned and given the opportunity to move on and represent 166su at the Miss Florida Scholarship Pageant in June 2014.

Pires-Fernandes is a senior from Miami studying musical theatre. She showcased a vocal performance entitled, “Cut, Print, Moving On,” and her platform is “Environmental Awareness: Living on the EGDE.”

“The dedication of these contestants and the growth I have seen in each of them is incredible,” said Marelena Cruz, Mr. and Miss 166su director Campus Activities Board. “All 24 of them make me so proud to be a part of this program, and I look forward to working with Quinn and Catie as our new titleholders.”

Both winners received a $1,500 scholarship from the Student Government Association and the 166su Alumni Association.

On February 9, 18 contestants participated in the Miss 166su Scholarship Pageant presented by the Campus Activities Board. Erin O’Flaherty was crowned Miss 166su 2013 and will compete in the Miss Florida Scholarship Pageant in July in hopes of moving on to Miss America.

 O’Flaherty is a senior majoring in accounting with a minor in leadership studies. She is a former Orientation leader, LEAD Scholar and Knight-Thon morale member and is currently an ambassador for the QPR Suicide Prevention program. Her platform is “Suicide Prevention ─ We’re All Responsible.”

 The night before, the new Mr. 166su 2013, Roberto Canalas, competed along nine other Mr. 166su contestants to win the title. Canalas is a junior majoring in interpersonal and organizational communications with a minor in leadership studies. He is a former LEAD Scholar and is currently the morale director for Knight-Thon.

Mr. and Miss 166su Volunteer at Teach-In /news/mr-and-miss-ucf-participate-in-ocps-teach-in/ Mon, 29 Nov 2010 16:00:11 +0000 /news/?p=18224 Mr. 166su Jared Masucci and Miss 166su Sara York participated in the “Orange County Public Schools Teach-In” at Pinar Elementary School.They visited four kindergarten classes in two sessions. York read a story and Masucci sang and played the guitar. They talked about 166su and having a positive attitude each day. Each program closed with the students learning the 166su cheer.

One classroom was hosted by teacher Denesha Jenkins Pierre-Louis. Veronica Liveslay, Student Development and Enrollment Services, stated, “In 2007, when Denesha was Miss 166su, I accompanied her and Alex Lord [Mr. 166su] to Princeton Elementary for the same purpose. It goes full circle.”

Each November, in celebration of American Education Week, the OCPS Foundation brings business and civic leaders into the classrooms – in a fun and engaging way – to talk with students about academics, careers and the future.

Jared Masucci Wins Mr. 166su Competition /news/jared-masucci-wins-mr-ucf-competition/ Thu, 28 Oct 2010 19:13:34 +0000 /news/?p=17361 Jared Masucci, an Interdisciplinary Studies senior from Merritt Island, won the Mr. 166su competition. Masucci beat out 13 contestants vying for the title of Mr. 166su 2011. The event played to a full Pegasus Ballroom with a futuristic theme.

The men competed in a private interview, beach wear, talent, formal wear and answered an on-stage question. In addition to the contestants, the event was hosted by outgoing Mr. 166su 2010 Michael Newman and the current Miss 166su Sara York. The opening number featured the contestants who were joined by some of the Knight Moves dancers. York entertained the audience with her piano solo from Miss Florida.

Masucci will receive a scholarship from Student Government Association and the Alumni Association. Mr. 166su is funded through the Student Government Association under the auspices of the Spectacular Knights Committee of the Campus Activities Board.

And the Winner is . . . Newman is from the Tampa area and is a junior in the College of Business majoring in Entrepreneurship Management and minoring in Political Science. He is a member of the President’s Leadership Council, Student Sustainability Alliance, Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity and Hillel at 166su.

Newman is involved in community service as Student Outreach coordinator for the 166su Campus Kitchens Project, and is a volunteer at the HOPE Food Pantry in Oviedo.

Newman looks forward to utilizing the role of Mr. 166su to promote and encourage more involvement in both sustainability issues on campus and providing food and resources for the less fortunate.

Visitors Present and Entertain at the Creative School /news/visitors-present-and-entertain-at-the-creative-school-for-children/ /news/visitors-present-and-entertain-at-the-creative-school-for-children/#comments Wed, 18 Nov 2009 16:26:10 +0000 /news/?p=7879 Mr. 166su 2009, Tyson Nales, and Miss 166su 2009, Dasha Gonzalez, and members of the American Student Dental Association recently visited the young Knights at the Creative School for Children. Miss 166su and members of the association promoted good dental hygiene and demonstrated how to effectively brush their teeth. The children received packets with a toothbrush and a timer to alert them how long to brush their teeth.

In addition, Mr. 166su entertained the children by singing a song and reading a story. The children were very excited to try on Miss 166su’s crown and Mr. 166su’s sash.

Creative School for Children is a department in the Division of Student Development and Enrollment Services.
