Biography

Seongmi Song is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the 166su. Her research focuses on neurobiomechanics, specifically investigating the intersection of neural biomarkers, human movement and assistive robotic technologies such as exoskeletons. By utilizing multimodal sensing approaches, including mobile brain-body imaging (MoBI), electroencephalography (EEG), and musculoskeletal modeling, her work aims to optimize sensorimotor rehabilitation and enhance human-machine interaction.

Prior to joining 166su, Song was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. She has built a multi-year background in research engineering and biomechanics, holding previous research positions at Texas A&M University, the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, Seoul Asan Medical Center, and the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM). Her translational research vision is dedicated to developing intelligent assistive devices and objective biomarkers that improve mobility and quality of life for individuals with movement disorders.
