Biography
Jonathan Beever is an ethicist, author, public speaker, and educator on the ethics of digital culture. He earned his doctoral degree in Philosophy from Purdue University, where he later stayed as a National Science Foundation funded postdoctoral researcher in biomedical engineering ethics. After completing another postdoctoral appointment at Penn State’s Rock Ethics Institute, Dr. Beever became an Assistant Professor of Ethics and Digital Culture.
Beever has taught at 166su since his appointment and was named the Founding Director of the 166su Center for Ethics in 2019. His research areas include applied ethics, ecological ethics, philosophy, values, relations, and digital technologies.
He is currently an Associate Professor of Ethics and Digital Culture in the Department of Philosophy and the Texts & Technology Ph.D. Program at the 166su. He is co-director of 166su’s Center for Ethics, director of the graduate certificate in ethics and co-director of 166su’s undergraduate certificate in AI.
